The World’s Oceans, Gathered in Salt

Every Coast. Every Crystal. Every Story

Our story

House of Salt began with a simple discovery: salts from different coasts do not taste the same.

We tasted salt crystals and grains gathered from different oceans and noticed how much character each one carried. Some were bright and immediate.

Others were mineral, rounded, briny, crisp, or quietly complex. The water mattered. So did the wind, the weather, the salt pan, the season, and the patience of the people harvesting it.

Fleur de Sel, Flower of Salt

They skim only the fragile crystals resting on the surface, carefully avoiding the denser salt and sediment below. The movement has to be light and seamless: touching the bottom of the pan can disturb the harvest.

🌊A Pinch of History, A Taste of the Sea🍽️

Fleur de Sel, Flower of Salt

Fleur de sel is the delicate salt crystal that forms naturally on the surface of salt pans. It is carefully skimmed by hand before it sinks, creating a light, crisp finishing salt.

A History Worth Tasting

For thousands of years, it was essential to survival. Salt preserved fish, meat, and vegetables long before refrigeration.

It provisioned ships for long sea voyages and made it possible for coastal communities to trade food far beyond the season in which it was caught or grown.

Salt was traded, guarded, taxed, fought over, and treasured. It became known as white gold: a symbol of hospitality, abundance, and value.
